Artists organize a landscape into foreground, middle ground, and background. Each plane behaves differently, but the planes must still feel connected.

Try this: Drag an element to place its base directly on the ground, then use its gold corner handle to resize it. Move two matching trees to different heights and compare their apparent distance.

Atmosphere scatters light. Distance loses contrast, saturation, sharp edges, and warm color.

Observe: Foreground colors remain strongest. The largest changes should occur near the horizon.

Studio challenge

Create convincing depth

Arrange a landscape that uses all three planes and at least four depth cues.

Use foreground, middle ground, and background.
Create at least one clear overlap.
Use size to show near and far.
Use enough atmosphere to soften distance.
